South Africa vs England Day 3 2nd Test Highlights | Durban

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Watch cricket highlights: South Africa vs England Day 3 of the 2nd Test at Durban played on December 28, 2009.

It can be a painful experience watching someone get into run-scoring form especially if you strongly dislike them. But you’ve got to hand it to Cook, leaving all those deliveries outside off, over and over and over again knowing that Harris was around the corner.

Good to watch Bell back in the lineup – one of those few players who are very watchable even if they’re not scoring.

Pakistan vs Australia 1st Test Day 3 Highlights | Melbourne

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Watch cricket highlights: Pakistan vs Australia Day 3 of the 1st Test played at the MCG on December 28, 2009.

Pakistan 258 all out: Umar Akmal 51, Misbah 65 no | Bollinger Johnson 3 each, Siddle 2
Aus 111/3 Shane Watson 64 no

There are plenty of touring players who’ve got bigger scores and hundreds in Australia, but the Umar Akmal knock will dwarf several of them for its sheer entertainment value, something that was evenly matched by the other young sensation of the year, Aamer, while truly entering this series only today.

What’s wrong with Watson – doesn’t he think people need a breather from an exhibition of batting aesthetics that he unendingly keeps pulling out?

Queensland vs Victoria T20 Highlights | Big Bash

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Watch cricket highlights: Queensland vs Victoria T20 Highlights from the Twenty20 Big Bash game played on December 28, 2009.

Scoreline: Victoria 157/8 Ross Taylor 58 (36), Dwayne Bravo 36 (18) | Ryan Harris 4-23-3
Queensland 121/6 in 16 overs | Hastings 3

Victoria win by 3 runs (D/L method) which possibly explains the sneaky smile on Dirk Nannes’ face right at the end after he feigned a failed run-up. Queensland would later protest the Hastings acrobatic save, but Victoria it is in the opener of the Big Bash.

Australia vs Pakistan 1st Test Highlights Day 2 | Melbourne

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Watch cricket highlights: Australia vs Pakistan 1st Test, Day 2 from the MCG played on December 27, 2009.

Scoreline: Aus 454/5 declared. Pakistan 109/4 Salman Butt 45

With the number of times the lack of Aussie centuries is mentioned on air, it’s become hard to ignore it. For a while Hauritz looked like he might do what Kumble did at Lord’s after the Indian batsmen kept failing to get a hundred.

Fantastic declaration by Ponting – can think of several other captains who’d have batted on and on with batsmen like Haddin and Johnson to come, under the pretext of we want to bat just once this match. The commentators seemed smug that the Aussie bowlers were able to reverseswing it in contrast to the Pakistani bowlers, which though a hindsight thought, reinforces the perplexing absence of Umar Gul.

With Umar Akmal around and Kamran to come, whatever the outcome, the morning session tomorrow is going to be highly entertaining. In the meantime, Warne has been in Smith’s ear. Nice.

England vs South Africa 2nd Test Highlights Day 2 | Durban

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Watch cricket highlights: England vs South Africa 2nd Test, Day 2 from Durban played on December 27, 2009.

Scoreline: SA 343 all out AB 50, Dale Steyn 47, Boucher 39
Eng 103/1 Andrew Strauss 54

The play was divided into phases with individuals taking down each phase of play: Boucher-AB-Steyn-Strauss. What was Smith thinking while Strauss was doing his thing – Agreed the bowling was good, but what was I doing yesterday? – perhaps.

Series in the bag and a demoralised Sri Lanka at their disposal, India will be hoping to sign off on a winning note in the fifth and final cricket ODI on Sunday.

With the fate of the series sealed at Eden Gardens and holiday spirit in the air, players from both sides would have to find some motivation for Sunday’s tie which has been rendered of mere academic interest.

Leading the Indian side in absence of regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni – who served a two-match ban – Virender Sehwag wanted to seal the issue in Kolkata itself for he was not sure of the track at Feroz Shah Kotla.

Having achieved that, the home side can now let their hair down and experiment with the playing XI.

Having missed the last two One-dayers, Dhoni is back in the side again, and for him Sunday’s match would be a dress rehearsal for the tri-series in Bangladesh next month.

Pakistan vs Australia 1st Test Highlights Day 1 2009 | Melbourne

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Watch cricket highlights: Pakistan vs Australia Day 1 of the 1st Test at Melbourne played on December 26, 2009.

Scoreline: Aus 305/3 Shane Watson 93, Simon Katich 98, Ponting 57, Hussey 38 no | Asif 2

Thought it would be a given that Younis Khan would be playing today but apparently he’s not even in the squad. Rauf makes a surprising return in place of Gul – this time around, his clutching-onto-the-ball-for-dear-life run-up appears to have vanished. And that was all that was noticeable about him today. Aamer had a rare listless day while Asif pretty much carried the bowling on a day when Ajmal was erratic.

Glorious Ponting aside, not sure if too many sides would complain if their batsmen scored 90s and 80s regularly – but just a thought – does this run of 80s and 90s allow the rest of the salivating cricketing world to at least mutter chokers under their breath.

Hauritz obviously deserves his place currently, but am hoping Steven Smith gets a look-in some time this series. Whatever was on show during the Champions League indicated someone quite special – even without his Arshavin-like looks.
