The series opener in Jaipur shouldn’t have got so close. Ashish Nehra should have been bowled off the penultimate ball of the innings. India’s total, as a result of that freakish incident – when the ball deflected off the stumps – should have been four runs less. India’s bowlers shouldn’t have allowed the South African tail to put their specialist batsmen to shame. A more conclusive camera angle/replay would have determined whether Sachin Tendulkar legitimately saved the boundary in the final over. All these significant incidents proved the difference between an Indian win and any other result.

India (probable) 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Dinesh Karthik, 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Praveen Kumar, 10 Ashish Nehra, 11 Sreesanth/Sudeep Tyagi

South Africa: (probable) 1 Herschelle Gibbs, 2 Loots Bosman/Hashim Amla, 3 Jacques Kallis (capt), 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Alviro Petersen, 6 Mark Boucher (wk), 7 Albie Morkel, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Johan Botha, 11 Charl Langeveldt.

Watch India v South Africa 1st ODI Cricket Highlights Online, 2010

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

JAIPUR: India overcame the absence of four top stars to beat South Africa by one run in a thrilling One-Day International on Sunday and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Wayne Parnell was run out off the final delivery, attempting a second run that would have tied the match, to leave the Proteas on 297 all out in reply to India’s 298/9.

The tourists were tottering at 225/8 in the 43rd over when the ninth-wicket pair of Parnell and Dale Steyn swung the day-night match around by adding 65 off 38 balls.

South Africa, needing 26 off the final 12 deliveries, smashed 16 runs in the penultimate over of Ashish Nehra that included a six each by Parnell and Steyn.

With nine runs required from five deliveries, seamer Praveen Kumar bowled Steyn and conceded just seven more off the next four to hand India a thrilling win.

Parnell hit a defiant 49 off 47 balls and Steyn plundered an 18-ball 35, but the pair failed to take the tourists across the line at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur.

Earlier, Suresh Raina top-scored with 58 off 63 balls and Virender Sehwag hammered a typically aggressive 46 off 37 balls as the hosts piled up 298/9 after being sent in to bat.

After a well fought however a short series, these two teams lock there horns in the shorter format.  Both teams however are loosing some key players due to injury, look very strong unit. South Africa seems to have a better bowling line up. India will seriously miss Zaheer Khan both as an opener and death bowler. But with Sehwag and Tendulkar on top of the innings, both of them can easily take the game away from the opponents. But watch out for Steyn and his killer swing. If he gets into grove, then it can be dicey for Indians.

South Africa: (probable) 1 Herschelle Gibbs, 2 Hashim Amla, 3 AB de Villiers, 4 Jacques Kallis (capt), 5 Loots Bosman, 6 Mark Boucher (wk), 7 Albie Morkel, 8 Morne Morkel, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Johan Botha, 11 Charl Langeveldt.

India (probable) 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Dinesh Karthik, 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Praveen Kumar, 9 Amit Mishra/R Ashwin, 10 Ashish Nehra, 11 Sreesanth.

Pakistan 127 all out Yousuf 58 (94)

1. After experiencing server problems for some time, dominatrix.au seems to be getting back to usual.

2. Surely, Ponting must be the Zidane of fielding

3. If Yousuf has been sacked in advance does that mean a return to test cricket for Afridi.

This win to SA will give them no.1 test ranking world cricket. For India, they have to win this match to maintain their position of no.1 by leveling the series. For India Laxman is back and with that a bit of relief of Indian team Their is one calmness in the air for the dressing room and the fans when Laxman walks into bat. Although he may not score runs himself in this match, but his presence can add confidence in other team mates.

Steyn is on fire on the other side and he will want to repeat his performance and seal the victory for his team.

India (IND) vs South Africa (SA) Day 1 2nd Test Highlights | Kolkata

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Watch cricket highlights: South Africa vs India Day 1 of the 2nd Test at Kolkata played on February 14, 2010

Scoreline: SA 266/9: Alviro Petersen 100, Hashim Amla 114 | Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh 3 each

Alviro Petersen who was a mix of watchability and judiciousness during the ODI series vs England came in place of Boucher today who’d had some back issues during the 1st test. If this was the first time you watched Petersen and would like more of him, have a look here, here and here. Justified calls on air to pencil Amla’s name into the ODI squad

Just going through the papers overs the last few days, looks like the all-round criticism of Harbhajan after the 1st test finally seems to have made sense to him – while it’s too early to call this even a half-recovery, at least it’s a start.

Good decision by the potent selectorial management to retain Ishanth – dropping him now would most certainly send him the Irfan Pathan way. His final spell today was the perfect example of keeping one end tight and if he eventually does recover, he’d be the perfect support bowler to Zaheer with Sreesanth as the third pacer.

Those who watched the 2001 Ind-Aus test series will recall the numerous times the post-tea session turned hostile for the Aussies and this curious phenomenon pretty much began at Kolkata. All in all, a super test ahead with Steyn sure to be bang on from the outset tomorrow.

Match Starts 0930 (0400 GMT) Please use comment section for live streaming links and discussions.

South Africa play 2 test matches against India, no.1 team, at least before the start of this series. If South Africa wins this series, then they take away the no.1 spot. For India, a drawn series will be enough for them to retain the no. 1 spot. However, they will like to win the series of course. They will be without the service of The Wall, Dravid, and Laxman is still doubtful. The key however will be Sehwag as usual. If he strikes, then he can take the match so quickly away from the opponents. SA will have Steyn and Morkel in their arsenal. 2 match series or not, this is going to be one exciting clash.

India (probable): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 M Vijay, 4 Sachin Tendulkar, 5 VVS Laxman, 6 S Badrinath, 7 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 8, Harbhajan Singh, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Amit Mishra/Pragyan Ojha, 11 Ishant Sharma.

South Africa (probable): 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Ashwell Prince, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Jacques Kallis, 5 AB de Villiers, 6 JP Duminy, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Johan Botha/Paul Harris, 9 Wayne Parnell, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Morne Morkel.
