Ian Butler’s one of those players you always like to include in your team while playing one of those stupid fantasy cricket games which you know you’ll never win and forget to update most of the time – he doesn’t cost much and he also gives you the joyous feeling of placing a risky bet because he either gets injured or wins a man of the match (crucial to fantasy cricket). It’s been a tough year for him – the lowest point was probably during the Champions League when former NZ pace-great Simon Doull accused him on air of running away from the heat of the moment when his knee gave way midway through an over. So fine way to return to the team.

To echo Afridi’s post matchwords – a great game even though you almost felt sorry for the distraught Salman Butt right at the end.

WI might not have made the best of this pitch, but not sure if flinging Sanath back to the top on this wikcet was the best way to get him back into form, considering he seems integral to SL’s plans. On the other side, one of the common things you hear about players like Dilshan and Sehwag is that they are just one hit away from regaining form – so by that logic, the lastball-firstball four today should see Dilshan’s return. Sangakkara seems to think so postmatch, hough for slightly different reasons.

The only good thing India can take out of this is that it’s unlikely that Rohit Sharma will anytime soon be dropped in favour of Jadeja. Umesh Yadav has joined the squad and given the Barbados wicket, he should in an ideal world be an automatic selection for the next few games.

There are some phrases and words in cricket that are bandied about so often that sometimes you can forget their significance and reality. This game was a perfect example vis-a-vis “intent” and “intensity”. Pakistan came back well in the final few overs of the 1st half, their worm was abreast and at times ahead of the Aus one, but even with the Hussey drop which saw him plunder the next Sami over, it was Australia who looked the ones with the intent and intensity while batting and on the field.
